In today’s episode we catch up with Nick Bertke, AKA Pogo, an electronic music producer who has seen great success with his highly unique take on both electronic music and film.

Nick’s work has gained huge popularity in recent years due to its sheer originality. He often creates an entire song using nothing but the sounds he samples from a single film or a specific scene.

He will often find certain phrases of spoken word in a film that have a tone to them (from the way they are spoken by the voice actor), and use them ask sung lyrics in his work.

Because of this, he is able to edit the actual film from that scene to create a music video, or a musical reinterpretation of the original film. As a result of this, his YouTube channel has seen immense levels of growth with around 350,000 subscribers.

You can see an example of his music videos using the scenes from a film in this example below – in this case Disney’s ‘Alice In Wonderland’.

Pogo’s work includes reinterpretations from a wide range of film sources including Dexter, Terminator, The Sword In The Stone, The Fresh Prince and much, much more.

In this podcast, Nick walks us through his process of creating a new track as well as the music videos, explaining his methods as well as the equipment he uses, both for the music and the film.

He goes in depth to explain how he created the hugely successful track ‘Austin 1911’, a superb track made entirely with sounds from the Western action-adventure video game series Red Dead

Here is the track for you to check out. The video shows you some of the processing and equipment Pogo used to mix and master this track.
