I don’t know about you, but one thing I really struggled to understand when I first started making music was what the best reverb settings were for different instruments, and particularly drums. Of course we all know about decay time, but on a reverb plugin you typically have other settings, such as room size, stereo width, high cut and low cut input processing, density, scale, dry wet, pre-delay, diffuse, reflect, etc. It can be overwhelming to know what is the right way to set things up. After years of experimenting and talking with other producers on the BassGorilla Podcast, I’ve come to go by these techniques shown in this video. I hope you find this useful. It basically comes down to using a return track and then paying close attention to the stereo width, room size, pre-delay and decay time.

The video is no longer viewable.

As always, I appreciate your comments, and if you do things differently to this let me know. I want to have everyone sharing their ideas on this site so it is more beneficial for everyone. I’m not saying the way I do things here is the right way, it’s just the way I’m doing things right now. Music production is a journey and this is where I’m at right now with reverb on my drums.

Cheers,

Luke
