In this tutorial I’ll walk you through a technique that revolutionized my audio mixing skills, and I’m sure it will do the same for you. This is actually a tutorial from my Ultimate Mixdown Guide course, which contains over 10 hours and 52 videos of mixdown tutorials, designed specifically for bass music and EDM producers.
In his interview with me, Skope explained how the reverb plugin in Logic Pro enables you to apply an envelope, so that while the sound is playing you can make it sound like ‘it’s in a massive cave’ (his words), but as soon as your bass stops, the reverb stops, so it doesn’t have a long tail that will interfere with other elements in your mix and you can create some more epic sounding basses, while still having a very clean mixdown.
I’ve taken that technique one step further in this tutorial with some ideas of how to use it on multiple bass sounds for a more dynamic mixdown.
In Ableton Live, the native reverb plugin doesn’t feature an envelope, but there is a very simple workaround which I’ll show you in this tutorial.
